Artikeln nedan består av en teoretisk diskussion och en sammanfattande definition av den fantastiska berättelsen i barnlitteraturen. En distinktion dras mellan två traditioner inom genren: en innehållsorienterad berättande och en språkorienterad, experimenterande.
